Basotho have been encouraged to learn from the excellent strategy implemented by its sister country, Botswana for quality education and sustainable economy.

The Lesotho National Commission for UNESCO Secretary General, Mrs. 'Mapaseka Kolotsane said this at a two-day workshop organised by the Botswana Education Hub for Stakeholders in Education Issues in Lesotho held in Maseru on Monday.

The purpose of the workshop is for the hub to network with policy makers in different tertiary institutions and encourage Basotho to go and study in Botswana institutions.

Mrs. Kolotsane said they appreciate efforts made by Botswana stakeholders in education as they continue to strengthen the relationship between the two countries which share the same history and culture.

Speaking at the same occasion the Principal Secretary for the Ministry of Education and Development Skills in Botswana, Mrs. Grace Muzila said the Hub is working hard to facilitate implementation of the strategy for diversified economy.

She said the strategy entails that Botswana should look outside borders to attract foreign students to come and study in that country to access quality education.

''The strategy calls for engagement of both public and private sector for quality and sustainable development,'' she said.

The Director of Botswana Education Hub, Mr. Labane Mokgosi said the workshop is a follow-up to the one which was held in January for students in higher education institutions.

He said the intention of the Hub is to implement the SADC protocol on education which encompasses that countries within the region must open borders for students to learn.

He said 42 Basotho students have enrolled at the University of Botswana and other tertiary institutions this academic year.

The workshop which is attended by stakeholders in education from both countries ends on Tuesday.
