The Minister of
Communications, Science and Technology, Mr. Ts'eliso Mokhosi
presented awards to over 20 students with outstanding
performance in science projects at a ceremony held at
Lerotholi Polytechnic on Friday.
The presentation of
awards was a peak of marking Science and Technology Week
which commenced on Monday.
Presenting awards,
Mr. Mokhosi said celebrating the Science and Technology Week
marks a new era in the country's socio-economic development
as science and technology have potential in job creation.
He added that if
Basotho invest more in sciences, the country will be able to
sustain its political, economical, social and technological
independence.
He commented that
innovative projects showcased by students proved that
Basotho have potential and if developed further, the country
will move to the next level of economic development.
He therefore urged
the Department of Science and Technology staff to double
their efforts in ensuring that projects presented by
students turn into business which will address the needs of
the country.
Speaking on behalf
of students who received awards, Dr Timothy Thamae
thanked
awarders for recognising the hard work of young scientists.
He emphasised that
science is about curiosity on physical reality, describing a
scientist as a person who looks at things as they are and
begin to ask questions.
He therefore urged
young scientists to keep up the good work as science plays a
vital role in promoting employment in the country.
Two awardees from
Masitise High School will further partake in South African
National Science and Technology exhibitions.
Awards were funded
by Monyamane Energy Solutions, Econet Telecom Lesotho,
