15 000 OVC RECEIVE BURSARY FROM SOCIAL
The Government of Lesotho, through the Ministry of Social Development
offered school bursaries to 15 000 Orphaned and Vulnerable Children
(OVC) at Primary, Secondary and High School level.
In his statement, the Minister of Social Development, Mr. Molahlehi
Letlotlo said of the 15 000 OVC, 320 were in Primary Schools, 10, 996 in
Secondary thus Form A to C while 3,684 were in High School, noting that
of the 3,684, 1 711 were in Form E.
He said the ministry is aware that the 2016 examination results have
been released, saying the Ministry is willing to continue paying fees
for OVC who performed well.
He therefore urged beneficiaries of the school bursary who have passed
the Lesotho General Certificate of Secondary Education (LGCSE)
examinations and will receive admission letters from tertiary
institutions to register their names at the Department of Social
Development offices in their respective districts so that the ministry
can make preparations to ensure that they further their studies at
tertiary with the assistance of relevant stakeholders.
He therefore urged guardians of beneficiaries and public to ensure that
applications to different tertiary institutions are submitted on time so
that the ministry could make follow ups and ensure that they
(beneficiaries) are given priority when the bursary list is made.
The bursary programme targets double and single orphans, vulnerable
children with disabilities as well as vulnerable children from needy
families whose remaining parents are unable to provide a living because
of chronic illness, old age, disability, abandonment or neglect.
