The Prime Minister of Lesotho, Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane formalized his marriage to Mrs. 'Maesaih Thabane at the occasion held at Setsoto Stadium on Sunday.

With the guidance of the Roman Catholic Church (RCC) Cathedral Administrator, Reverend Father (Rev. Fr.) Molefi Ramosoeu, the Prime Minister and his spouse exchanged wedding vows before international community and multitudes of Basotho who came to witness the event.

Addressing the groom and bride, Rev. Fr. Gabriel Lehloka advised them to maintain love and respect as the foundation of their marriage.

He congratulated them for being a good example to Basotho as they took their relationship to the next level through matrimonial unity.

He expressed believe that their unity in marriage will influence unity of Basotho as a nation, saying unity of the nation results in peace and prosperity.

Rev. Fr. Lehloka urged the Prime Minister and his spouse to always put God first in all their plans so to seek guidance.

Speaking at his matrimonial ceremony, Dr Thabane expressed their gratitude to all present and Basotho for gracing their wedding, saying it has been their hearts’ desire to see Basotho witness their love and commitment to one another.

He thanked his spouse for her love and support, saying she continues to support him through it all and that their marriage is the will of God.

Addressing young people, he urged them to seek God’s guidance in their plans so that they become better individuals, noting this can happen when they engage in prayer in everything they do.

Dr Thabane therefore declared his love to his spouse, saying he will always protect and support her.

In the same token, Mrs. Thabane declared her love to him, noting that their love life has been a long but hurtful journey.

She thanked her families (thus Ramoholi and Thabane) and her friends for their support and guidance during difficult times. 

In his remarks, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) representative and the Prime Minister of Swaziland, Mr. Barnabas Sibusiso Dlamini congratulated the Prime Minister, saying the couple shares the joyous anticipation of the live that lies ahead.

 He reiterated Winston S. Churchill’s words of wisdom, “Most brilliant achievement was my ability to be able to persuade my wife to marry me.” 

Prime Minister Dlamini noted that this unity should lead to the prosperity of Basotho nation.

The Principal Chief of Thaba-Bosiu and Senator Khoabane Theko said today's initiative will make things easier and better for all.

He said this marriage is a great success for all Basotho as the happy family leads to a happy leader who will be able to attend to the needs of people, noting that it is time for the Prime Minister to focus on the needs of Basotho hence address them accordingly.

Dr Thabane is 78 years old while his spouse is 40.
