PM TO ATTEND 29TH AU ORDINARY SESSION 

The Prime Minister (PM), Dr Motsoahae Thabane will attend the 29th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) to be held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia from July 03 to 04.

The Press Secretary to the PM's Office, Mr. Thabo Thakalekoala said in an interview on Thursday that this year's Ordinary Session will be held under the theme, “Harnessing the Demographic Dividend through Investments in Youth”.

He added that the Summit takes place annually to give the Heads of State and Government of the African Union the opportunity to deliberate on a number of issues aimed towards development of the African continent as a whole.

He said the Heads of State and Government will amongst others consider the reports on the institutional reform of the African Union to be presented by the President of Rwandaw, Mr. Paul Kagame and a report of the continental free trade areas issues, which he said will be presented by the President of Niger, Mr. Mahamadou Issoufou. 

Mr. Thakalekoala added that other issues to be covered by the Summit are consideration of the activities of the Peace and Security Council and the State of Peace and Security in Africa, consideration of the AU on the implementation of a master roadmap on the practical steps to silence the guns in Africa by the year 2020 as well as adoption of the AU budget for 2018.

The Press Secretary also mentioned that the 29th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of the Heads of State and Government of the AU will be preceded by the 34th ordinary session of the permanent representatives' Committee, which took place on Tuesday and Wednesday this week and the 31st Ordinary Session of the Executive Council to be held for two days from Friday.

The Prime Minister and his delegation will leave the country on Sunday and return on July 05.
