The Revenue Services Lesotho (RSL) and the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) signed a Memorandum Of Understanding (MOU) to formalize collaboration between the two institutions.

The MOU was signed by the RSL Commissioner General, Mrs. ‘Mathabo Mokoko and the LDF Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Major General, Matela Matobakele on behalf of the LDF.

In her remarks, the RSL Commissioner General, Mrs. Mokoko expressed gratitude for the signing of MOU between the two institutions and noted that RSL and LDF were formalizing cordial relations that the two institutions enjoyed over the past years.

She also said that the two institutions were the backbone of the country, and their formal collaboration will go a long way to have a positive impact in changing the livelihoods of Basotho.

The LDF Deputy Chief of Defence Staff, Major General Matela Matobakele said the tax and army regimes trace far back in the history of different nations hence the two sectors share common interests.

He added that the LDF was ready for collaboration with the RSL in the implementation of MOU, amongst other things through enhancing their personal knowledge on the tax system and through assisting the RSL to manage tax leakages at unmanned/porous border areas across the country.

The MOU aims to foster collaboration in areas such as the exchange of information between the two institutions, co-operation on corporate social responsibility programmes and provision of training to both RSL and LDF personnel.

It will also cover areas such as the provision of security services to the RSL and cooperation on developmental and support programmes.
