The Minister of Home Affairs has declared Monday of March 12, 2018 as a holiday.

Monday has been identified as a holiday to allow Basotho to attend the annual commemoration of Moshoeshoe's day held on March 11, which this year will be on Sunday.

This, the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Machesetsa Mofomobe revealed in an interview.

Mr. Mofomobe said the Minister of Home Affairs in his capacity has the right to select holidays based on the Law especially when there are important activities in the country.

He therefore appealed to all members of the Public to attend the Moshoeshoe's day celebrations in their respective districts on Monday, saying the national celebration will be held at Thaba-Bosiu in the Maseru district.

The commemoration of Moshoeshoe’s Day is meant to honour and celebrate life of the founder of Basotho nation, King Moshoeshoe I.

Meanwhile, at the commemoration, His Majesty King Letsie III is expected to officiate the event, and upon his arrival, he will receive the royal salute and inspect the guard of honour, then ascend together with the Prime Minister, Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane, Principal Chiefs of Makhoakhoa, Bataung and Batlokoa to the top of Thaba-Bosiu by a helicopter where they will lay wreaths on King Moshoeshoe I's grave.

After the laying of wreaths, activities aimed to entertain the public during this historic event will be performed by various public groups and schools at the Lesotho Evangelical Church of Southern Africa (LECSA) grounds.

King Moshoeshoe I was born at Menkhoaneng in 1786 and died on March 11, 1870.
