His Majesty King Letsie III accepted letters of credence from Sweden Ambassador to Lesotho, Mrs. Cecilia Julin and the High Commissioner of Islamic Republic of Pakistan to Lesotho, Dr Sohail Khan at an event held at the Royal Palace in Maseru on Thursday.

Accepting letters of credence from Mrs. Julin, His Majesty said mutual friendly relations between Sweden and Lesotho existed for over four decades and her presence in the country signifies desire to strengthen further the existing relations.

He noted that such relations are characterised by shared values and principles, respect for rule of law, fundamental freedom and human rights among others.

He said Sweden supports the country in multilateral organisations, saying the cooperation in other areas will be consolidated in years to come.

His Majesty therefore assured Mrs. Julin of the country's support during her tenure of office.

When accepting letters of credence from Dr Khan, His Majesty said Pakistan supports Lesotho in Health and Agricultural sector, recalling the positive impact in the health sector that was brought about by a Pakistan medical Superintendent at Queen II Hospital years ago.

His Majesty said the country is looking forward to expansion of cooperation between the two countries in various fields.

He also assured the High Commissioner of the government and Basotho's support during his tour of duty. 

Meanwhile, when presenting letters of credence, Mrs. Julin of Sweden said both countries have good history of joined cooperation that brought about change in South Africa during the apartheid regime.

She said Sweden is part of the European Union (EU) thus she contributes towards development projects implemented in the country by EU.

Mrs. Julin added that Sweden's business sector has been active in Lesotho, expressing hope that her presence in the country would extend bonds of cooperation in economic and political ties.

On the other hand, Dr Khan said he will utilise his experience, skills and to strengthen the existing relations between the two countries during his tenure of office.

Both the High Commissioner and Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister after the presentation ceremony.
