The Honourable Minister of Finance

Honourable, Dr 'Mamphono Khaketla


Honourable ‘Mamphono Khaketla is the Minister of Finance. She is also a Senator. She was appointed to the position of the Minister of Finance in March 2015. 


Dr Mamphono Khaketla attained her Bachelor of Education from the National University of Lesotho and Diploma in Education in 1980 and 1982 respectively. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Madison in USA with Msc in 1988 and PhD in 1991.

Political Career

In 2002, Honourable Khaketla was appointed to the position of the Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, the position she hend until 2004 when she moved to serve in the Ministry of Natural Resource from 2004 to 2007. Dr Khakela also served as Minister of Education and Training from 2007 to 2012. She is currently the Minister of Finance the position she held from 2015 to date.

Career outside Politics

She has worked as Lecturer at the National Teacher Training College (now Lesotho College of Education) from 1981 to 1995, Chief Education Officer in the Ministry of Education and Training from 1995 to 1996 and later in the same year (1996) became the Director at the Institute of Development Management (IDM) in Lesotho and Botswana. She served at IDM until 2001 when she joined the Centre for Accounting Studies as Director until 2002.
In 2012, Dr Khaketla engaged in consultancy work until 2015 when she became Minister of Finance.
