JUSTICE HLAJOANE’S FINAL MOMENT CELEBRATED IN BEREA

Thousands of Basotho, government dignitaries, friends and judicial staff gathered at Mokomahatsi in Berea to pay tribute to the late Justice Maseshophe Hlajoane on Thursday.
Passing his condolences, His Majesty King Letsie III said though the passing of Justice Hlajoane has left a deep hole in everyone’s heart, she has left a legacy through her good reputation and commitment at work hence the need to wipe away tears and celebrate her legacy.
His Majesty said the deceased will be remembered for her commitment in delivering justice without fear or favour.
He called for celebration of the life well lived, urging her fellow colleagues to continue with the legacy she left.
He commended the deceased for her ability to put her best performance at work while still performing her responsibilities as a parent. He cited the time when she was mandated to service in the State Council, saying she played a vital role of advising him with all humility and loyalty even during the toughest times that the country faced.
Also speaking was the Prime Minister, Dr Motsoahae Thabane who described the Judge Hlajoane’s death as the loss to the entire nation as there is still much to be done regarding justice delivery.
Dr Thabane urged all to remain strong even in such hard situations because God is still in control, saying Justice Hlajoane has confidently completed her calling on a high note by reducing a back log of cases in the courts of law.
He said the deceased’s history reflects all her good work, commenting that she knew the judiciary administration system.
The Prime Minister said Justice Hlajoane’s death came at a critical time when the country is preparing for the implementation of the National Reforms program, saying her contribution would be of great importance hence appealed to all Basotho to take an active role in supporting such initiative as it is  meant to build a better Lesotho for all.
In his remarks, the Principal Chief of Koeneng, Chief Peete Lesaoana Peete expressed disappointment over this loss which he said has shaken the nation, therefore expressed their heartfelt condolences to His Majesty King Letsie III for the passing of one of his dedicated loyal servant.
Chief Peete commended the deceased for her strong character, saying she was among those people who stood for the truth, saying her death did not only affect the judiciary but also the chieftainship which he said has also suffered a huge loss.
Speaking at the same occasion, the Acting Chief Justice Maseforo Mahase said she knew the deceased way back in 1986 when she joined the civil service as a hardworking and loving person.
She said though her death has  left a huge loss on their side, their colleague is no longer in pain she was suffering.
Chief Justice Mahase applauded the late for her passion for her work and ability to share skills through many people on top management posts have received training from her. She therefore encouraged all judiciary employees to double their efforts in order to match her pace at work.
Justice ‘Maseshophe Hlajoane was born in 1951 at Ha-Rats’iu in Berea. She started her primary education at Berea LEC in 1958 and then went to the National University of Lesotho (NUL) where she obtained Bachelor of Law in 1991. She has served as a judge of the High Court from 2001 to date.
