Honourable Lesego Calayel Makgothi

Honourable Lesego Makgothi is the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations. He was appointed to his position on 23rd June, 2017. He is also a Member of Parliament representing All Basotho Convention (ABC) political party for the Maseru No. 32 Constituency following the June 2017 snap elections.

Honourable Makgothi holds Masters in Business Administration (MBA) and Post Graduate Diploma in Business Administration both from Management College of South Africa in 2009 to 2014. He graduated from the Rand Afrikaans University with Diploma in Information Technology in 2001. In 1991, he enrolled with the National University of Lesotho (NUL) where he obtained Diploma in Business Studies in 2003, and Certificate in Business Studies from the Institute of Extra-Mural Studies (IEMS) in 1988. He completed his high school education in 1985 at Maseru Day High School.

He is serving his second term as a Member of Parliament in the 10th Parliament of Lesotho as he also served in the ninth Parliament still representing the ABC in the Maseru No. 32 Constituency. He is the chairperson of joint caucus for the current Coalition Government formed by the four political parties thus; ABC, Alliance of Democrats (AD), Basotho National Party (BNP) and Reformed Congress of Lesotho (RCL).

Before joining the politics, Honourable Makgothi served in various companies that include Ipelegeng Enviro Care (Pty) Limited as Managing Director from July 2013 to 2015 after serving at Lesotho Revenue Authority for nine years, thus from 2003 to 2012, holding managerial positions. These positions ranged from IT Manager System Support and Networks in 2003-2004, Head IT Systems Support and Networks from 2004-2006; Manager Service Delivery and Outsourced Management from 2006-2011 and IT Manager Risk Management from 2011-2012. He also worked at the Lesotho Highlands Development Authority as Senior Systems Support Officer from 1992-1996 and Senior Systems Support Officer from 1996-2003.

Honourable Makgothi also worked at the Lesotho Brewing Company since 1988-1992 where he worked as Computer Operator and Senior Computer Operator respectively. In 1987, he worked for the Lesotho Government as Accounts Clerk at the Plant and Vehicle Pool Service until 1988.

Honourable Makgothi was born at Thibella in Maseru. He is married and blessed with children.
