AGRIC LAUNCHES SADP II PROJECT

The Acting Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Likopo Mahase launched the Phase II of the SADP project in Maseru on Friday.
Speaking during the launch, Mr. Mahase applauded the SADP plan which includes backlog farmers from the three districts namely: Mokhotlong Thaba-Tseka and Qacha’s Nek.
He said similar projects which will follow will be accelerated so as to expand the production and marketing of agricultural products.
Also speaking, the SADP II Director, Mrs.’Malichaba Nkhethoa said Lesotho must work hard to ensure that they produce high-quality food which will promote food nutrition.
Mrs. Nkhethoa said even though Lesotho is Faced with many challenges amongst them being climate change, drought and food security, the government is working hard together with farmers to ensure that there is food security in the country through the SADP II project.
As part of the launch, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, Mr. Nchakha Makara also launched the website of the SADPII project.
He said this marks an important day in the communications calendar of the SADP II project, saying commercializing agriculture goes hand in hand with developing an online strategy: providing a platform where the project can communicate with its various stakeholders through online media.
He noted that the launched website is a symbolic step that signifies that the project is taking meaningful steps toward broadening communication capacities and the ability to engage with stakeholders to open opportunities for learning and development.
Mr. Makara urged the SADP team to leverage the power of shared information, collaboration and two-way engagement hence instructed them to keep the information portal fresh with up-to-date content, so that it should serve as a repository of information but also as a platform where stakeholders can share their views on the project.
He stressed that the website will provide an electronic avenue where the project can speak with the world work as an outlet that stakeholders can use to access services that link the project with partners, beneficiaries, communities and scholars.
Only 67 Farmers from three districts signed the merging grants amounting to M300, 000.00.
The SADP project has been established to support increased adoption of climate-smart agricultural (CSA) technologies in Lesotho’s agriculture, enhanced commercialization, and improved dietary diversity among targeted beneficiaries.
