COMMS MINISTER LAUNCHES DEPLOYMENT OF NETWORK INFRASTRUCTURE

The Minister of Communications Science and Technology, Mr. Tšoinyana Rapapa on Wednesday officially launched the deployment of Network Infrastructure at Lerotholi Polytechnic.
The project is funded by Universal Service Fund (USF) with M 1 400 000 Network Infrastructure will be invented by the Global IT Company.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Rapapa said he is happy to launch this great initiative that will impact the lives of Basotho Students positively, saying he is expecting to see a change in students once the project is completed.
He noted that the establishment of this infrastructure came at the right time when the public is in dire need of technology due to COVID 19 regulations that compels the people not to gather in larger numbers.
He said the plant will have 14 indoor Sisco access points, 31 outdoor access points and 6 wireless controllers to the access points.
He therefore urged relevant stakeholders to take care of the equipment and appealed to the Global IT Company to complete the task on the due date.
The Chairperson of USF, Ms. Mabataung Khalane said the main purpose of USF is to diverse commination’s technology, internet and post offices across the country more especially in the outreach stations.
She said it is USF responsibility to see that all intuitions of higher learning have internet access therefore thanked Mr. Rapapa for the establishment of the infrastructure at Lerotholi Polytechnic, saying they are yet to work in other intuitions.
She stressed that technology is still a problem in the country, however, USF is working tirelessly to improve it.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary Universal Service Fund, Mr. Thabiso Soko said the school and USF partnered in order to promote Information Communication Technology (ICT) so to make work easier for students and lecturers.
He urged the students to use the infrastructure for the intended purpose, saying it will help them do their researches and preparations for the examinations.
