The Ministries of Small Business Development and Co-operatives and that of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation signed agreement to handover the Cooperative college as a command Centre for AUCS region 5 Games.
The AUCS region 5 games will resume in December 2021 where under 20 athletes will engage in different spotting codes tournament.
Speaking at the event, Chief Thesele Maseribane of the Ministry of Small Business Development and Cooperatives said he is pleased to work hand in hand with the Ministry of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation in making the upcoming AUCS region 5 games a success.
He noted that the budget amounting to M250 million that the government has allocated for the games is an investment, urging the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) to support the local products during the games as that will help improve the collapsing economy.
Also speaking, the Minister of Gender, Youth, Sports and Recreation, Ms. Likeleli Tamapane remarked that funds are a major challenge in the country hence the cabinet has decided to maintain the current playgrounds rather than building the new ones.
She said the cabinet’s subcommittee has identified buildings and playgrounds to be used during the games, saying the maintenance project has commenced.
She said they are going to use Cooperative Collage as a Nerve Centre, Polyclinic and Information Centre during the games.
It is expected that the AUSC Region Five member countries to participate in these games Angola, Malawi, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia, Swaziland, Mozambique and Lesotho will be hosting the games.
