COVID-19 TESTS START NEXT WEEK – MINISTER

The Minister of Health, Mr. Nkaku Kabi announced that COVID-19 expansion of tests in the country will commence next week in the districts of Mokhotlong, Qacha’s Nek and Quthing.
This exercise, he said is in line with the World Health Organisation (WHO) requirements concerning COVID-19 as Lesotho has been encouraged to undertake a holistic approach meant to ensure existence or non-existence of the pandemic in the country.
In his statement, Minister Kabi noted that the exercise will be carried out by experts from the Ministry together with 250 Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) health professionals who will be placed in different parts of the country.
He mentioned that there will be health boot tents to ease work as undertaken, saying while the intention is to reach out to masses, the districts of Mokhotlong, Qacha’s Nek and Quthing are main targets as some people use these districts as illegal entry posts to Lesotho.
‘All we want is to ensure that even those crossing to Lesotho illegally are tested hence to be proactive against the virus,’ he underlined.
The Minister however mentioned that the preliminary tests will still be sent to South Africa for confirmation purposes.
He commented that to date, Lesotho remains among the six African Countries free of Coronavirus and these are Malawi, Burundi and Saudi Arabia to mention a few, saying this is the reason why Basotho should try harder to stay negative.
In conclusion, he remarked that since the advent of COVID-19, twenty-eight (28) tests have been done and all came out negative, however saying there are still other two samples sent for testing and these make a total of 30 cases tested in the country.
