DISTRICTS RECEIVE PPEs

The National COVID-19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) together with the supporting stakeholder distributed COVID-19 equipment to ten districts at the event held on Thursday in Maseru.
The Minister of Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation, Mrs. Likeleli Tampane on behalf of the Minister of Transport thanked all the supporting stakeholders who have donated this equipment to NACOSEC which is now distributing them to the District Administrators.
Mrs. Tampane said the equipment will play an important role in ensuring that communities in all districts receive all protecting equipment they need.
She thanked NACOSEC for its work and pleaded with it to continue to educate people about this virus and urge them to follow COVID-19 regulations.
Also speaking, the National Director of World Vision, Mr. James Chifwelu said the collaboration between all the stakeholders is a sign that the fight against C0VID-19 in Lesotho is not one institution problem but the country.
Mr. Chifwelu said they are here as partners to ensure that they support the government in this fight, saying they will do everything they can as supporting stakeholders to ensure that they combat this pandemic.
He said World Vision has participated at the national level and community level to ensure that the fight is being defeated, adding that they are looking forward to doing more depending on gaps which are identified concerning to COVID-19.
On the other hand, NACOSEC Chief Executive Officer, Dr Malitaba Litaba thanked all stakeholders who have donated the equipment to support NACOSEC.
Dr Litaba raised concerns about the current COVID-19 situation in the country, saying the country is still in danger as there is a possibility of experiencing high infection rate as the country has not yet moved to the Green Colour Coding stage.
She said according to epidemic control, there is still a high rate of community transmission infection, saying the statistics show that among the 32 new recorded positive cases on week 19, only 12 cases were from the border movement while 20 were community transmission.
She added that of the country is faced with the tragedy of the increasing rate of infections hence urged people to continue protecting themselves as the death rate seems to have increased compared to last statistics recorded.
On behalf of District Administrators and Coordinator, Mr. Liteboho Tsola said they are pleased as District Administrators to receive COVID-19 equipment which he said will enable their district to combat the spread of the infectious pandemic.
Mr. Tsola thanked all the supporting stakeholders who have donated these to all ten districts to ensure that they win the fight against the pandemic, noting that they are faced with so many challenges amongst them include shortage of PPEs and these donations came at the right as they will help District Administrators to deliver much-needed services in their communities.
He appealed to the media to raise awareness about the virus and encourage Basotho to continue to abide by COVID-19 regulations.
The supporting stakeholders are World Vision, OBE, Metropolitan, Petroleum and Maluti Mountain Brewery. The donated equipment includes disposable mask, face shield, sanitisers and bar soaps.
