The Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Mathebeli Mokhothu says the Southern Africa Development Community (SADC) Facilitator to Lesotho, Justice Dikgang Moseneke has approved the Government and National Reforms Authority (NRA) progress report.
This, the Deputy Prime Minister disclosed during a press briefing held in Maseru on Monday. The briefing aimed at presenting details of the government and NRA delegation meeting with the SADC Facilitator to Lesotho, which was held in Pretoria, South Africa last week on Lesotho reforms progress.
Mr. Mokhothu said in his congratulatory remarks, Justice Moseneke commended both the Government of Lesotho and NRA for the progress made so far, saying this is evident of the two parties’ commitment to reaching for Basotho’s desire for a peaceful Lesotho.
According to Mr. Mokhothu, Justice Moseneke has assured the Government of Lesotho and NRA of his support and that of the President of South Africa in making sure that the reforms journey becomes a success.
He added that the National Reforms Authority has intended to prioritise and complete the reforms in the sectors of Security, Constitution, Parliamentary and Judiciary by August this year, saying this is in preparation for the upcoming general elections.
Presenting the progress of the reforms, Mr. Mokhthu mentioned amongst the others: deployment of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and his deputy as well as the officers, relocation of NRA offices to Block B LNDC Centre, Levels 6 and 7. He added that stakeholders’ engagement continues.
Again, he said the NRA council has succeeded in establishing the Reforms Implementation System which will establish operational committees.
The Lesotho delegation to South Africa included the Lesotho High Commissioner to South Africa, Minister of Law and Justice, Prof. Nqosa Mahao, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Machesetsa Mofomobe, Principal Secretaries of the two ministries as well as NRA Chairperson and his deputy.
The NRA term is scheduled to end in October this year.
