Eleven people were arrested for disregarding the lockdown protocols in the Maseru and Berea districts.
The suspects were charged for contravening Section 3(14) read with Section 10(2) of Public Health Regulation COVID-19 Legal Notice 27 of 2020.
This is according to the National Emergency Command Centre (NECC) press release issued on Tuesday.
The release states that amongst the eleven is the member of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) who was found with another man and a woman drinking alcohol at an illegal business at Ha Leqele.
The three who are between the ages of 23 and 38, were charged for contravening section 34(1) (2) of liquor licensing Act No. of 1998 as well as section 3 (6) of public Health COVID-19 regulation of 2020. They were however released on free bail.
The release adds that six men aged between 24 and 40 years from Ha Motjoka in Berea were remanded in custody after being arrested at Roadside Public Bar for drinking liquor between 1800 hrs and 1900 hrs.
In another case, two men residing at Ha Nelese and Ha Thamae respectively were arrested after found by police moving without legal permission to Ha Matala near Maseru 5 around 0100 in the morning. The two were also released on free bail.
However, all the accused in three cases will appear in court for remand before the end of this month.
The Lesotho Lockdown, which started in March 29 and will end on 21st April, follows the declaration of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) outbreak as National Emergency by the Prime Minister, Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane last month. It is aimed at restricting people’s movement thus promoting social distancing to prevent coronavirus infections in the country.
