EU/UNICEF ASSIST 50,000 HOUSEHOLDS

The Minister of Social Development, Mrs. ‘Matebatso Doti says European Union (EU) in partnership with UNICEF will assist 50, 000 households providing care for vulnerable children under the Child Grant Program (CGP) by the Ministry of Social Development.
Mrs. Doti said each household will receive cash amounting to M1500 for the period of three months, saying this is the top-up relief grant due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Minister further mentioned that 6000 households will also benefit from the EU/UNICEF aid, noting that these households are the beneficiaries of CGP. She added that these beneficiaries will receive M2068 for a period of three months.
Additionally, Mrs. Doti noted that the Government of Lesotho will also assist 12, 741 households for the retro of three months with the relief fund of M870, adding these families already receive social grant assistance from the government.
She said the aim of the relief fund is to assist households with the children’s needs that include ID Cards, Birth Certificates, food, clothing and others during this trying time of the pandemic.
This comes after an announcement made last year by the Ministry of Social Development that the government has appealed for assistance from the EU during the pandemic.
