The First Lady, Mrs. Mammusa ‘Masekoalane Majoro honoured and commended Basotho Women from all sectors for their strength, courage, integrity and confidence despite the challenges they encounter day-to-day.
The First Lady was speaking in her message addressed to women in commemoration of the Women’s Month at the event held in Maseru on Saturday.
Mrs. Majoro honoured and praised Her Majesty Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso for being the Mother to all, saying she is a pillar of strength for women.
She remarked that Lesotho is faced with many challenges, which she said have changed the country’s status of being a place of peace to an unpredictable and scary place for women including old aged women, young women and girls due to abuse by men.
She said men have changed from being protectors of women to becoming enemies hence urged women to call it to an end.
“Women, it is time to end this violation of women’s rights and say ‘enough is enough to women abuse’,” she stressed, adding that women are strong and can stop this abuse as women in South Africa did in 1956 when they petitioned and protested against violation of human rights in that country.
Talking about COVID-19, she further commended women for being in frontline in fighting this pandemic by providing food for destitute families and orphans during this frustrating time hence urged them to keep on doing good and never lose hope, saying the Office of the First Lady will always be ready to assist whenever there is a need.
In conclusion, Mrs. Majoro thanked all women from all walks of life saying their presence within the communities plays a vital role, urging them to celebrate this month by giving love, respect, oneness and relaxing the high abuse of women and children.
