The First Lady, Mrs. ‘Maesaiah Thabane will be conferred with honorary Ph.D by Divinity College Consortium (an Interdenominational University) in the United States of America on March o9, 2019.
The Public Relations Manager in the office of the First Lady, Mr. Silas Monyatsi told LENA, saying the ceremony will be held at Oasis Auditorium in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
Mr. Monyatsi said the conferment of the honorary doctorate is in recognition of the Mrs. Thabane’s role in social and community development in the country.
Narrating some of the social and community development initiatives led by the First Lady, Mr. Monyatsi cited building of houses for the needy and elderly people, giving food items and groceries to the needy and elderly, awarding wheelchairs to those in need as well as paying school fees for some of the needy children.
He further noted that besides her contribution in the fight against HIV and AIDS in the country, the First Lady became an agent of change when she embarked on countrywide campaigns to sensitise and influence men to test for Prostate Cancer in preparation for Cancer Conference that was held in the country last year.
“Like other cancers, Prostate Cancer affects the lives of men negatively hence the need to continuously appeal to men to get tested,” he stressed.
The Office of the First Lady deals with different social and community development programmes aimed at improving the livelihoods of s meant to improve the livelihoods of Basotho.
