FIVE THOUSAND TREES PLANTED AT HA NTSANE

Government officials, Public Servants including students from different schools around the vicinity of Thaba-Bosiu planted five thousand indigenous trees at Ha Ntsane, Thaba-Bosiu today.
Speaking with the office of the Spokesperson at National Tree Planting Day, the Principal Secretary (PS) in the Ministry of Forestry, Dr Kamoho Matlama said today’s event is part of the Government’s effort meant to restore the ecosystem.
He explained that the Ministry of Forestry, Soil Conservation and Land Reclamation has a mandate to educate and inform society of the importance of planting trees hence this is one of the campaigns to attain such a goal.
He added that trees are vital in that they give off oxygen that human beings need to breathe further while also reducing erosion. Therefore, he thanked supporters of today’s event for their financial support in ensuring that today’s activity becomes a success.
Moreover, Dr Matlama mentioned that in Maseru, it is expected that 10 000 trees will be planted in Maseru as part of preventing soil erosion while also enabling the environment.
Delivering a speech on behalf of sponsors, Mr. Mohale Ralebitso of Vodacom said local companies are committed to supporting developmental activities such as this one.
He highlighted the need to protect and safeguard soil if Lesotho is to prosper, therefore he called for patriotism amongst leaders in their different spheres including the entire nation to put their hands on the earth and plant trees.
Mr. Ralebitso noted that in 2023, the private sector will further support this gesture thus by planting an additional 20 000 trees. This event has been supported financially and otherwise by different local companies.
A Savingram from the office of Government Secretary (GS) indicates that at least 46 000 trees are meant to be planted across the country to mark the National Tree Planting Day.
Present at this event included the Principal Chief of Thaba-Bosiu, Chief Khoabane Theko including students from Ntlo-Kholo and Ntsane Primary Schools.
