FORMER MINISTER LAID TO REST 

The Former Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Molibeli Soulo has been laid to rest following his passing away on July 29, 2023. The funeral took place in Maseru, on Friday.

Extending his condolences to the deceased family, friends, politicians and the public, His Majesty King Letsie III said losing someone is not easy, especially that one person who has imppositively impacted the lives of others

His Majesty said Mr. Soulo devoted his life to the service of the government and of the public, saying his efforts must not go unnoticed.

He said during Mr. Soulo’s tenure in office as the Minister in the Prime Minister’s office, he worked hard to eradicate stock theft, killings associated with Famo music and many others.

He noted that it could be wise that all his efforts are brought on board, adding that striving for peace and stability is one of Mr. Soulo’s strengths.

 

On the same note, the Prime Minister, Mr. Samuel Ntsokoane Matekane said though he is new in politics, he cannot deny the fact he knows Mr. Soulo for being a politician who worked hard to reduce the high rate of stock theft especially in rural areas.

Mr. Matekane passed his condolences to the family, friends and the public at large, saying the government will take from where he left for the benefit of the nation.

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Mr. Tlohang Sekhamane expressed his heartfelt condolences to the deceased family and asked God to give them strength during this time of sadness.

Mr. Sekhamane said he took a mile in the journey of politics with Mr. Soulo and he knows how much he has contributed to the politics of this country.

He said though they could not agree on everything, Mr. Soulo never had grudges with anyone and he always strived for good healthy relationships.

In his political life, Mr. Soulo was a strong member of the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) until 2006 when he left it to form the All Basotho Convention (ABC) alongside the then-leader and close friend Mr. Motsoahae Thabane.

In 2014, Mr. Soulo returned to LCD and he has been with LCD to date when he succumbed to death.

During the ABC-led government in 2012, he was appointed Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office responsible for the Police. It is during the said tenure that he was appointed to lead a combined team of police and the army, known as the Counter Crime Unit, to uproot gangsterism in Mafeteng.

He was a Member of Parliament (MP) from 1998 to 2017.

He is the second former Minister to die this month following former Local Government Minister Mr. Habofanoe Lehana who died on July 09 and was laid to rest last Friday.

He was born in March 1954 at Thaba Ntšo Ha Tumo in the Mohale’s Hoek district. He is survived by his wife and three children, two daughters and a son.
