GOVERNMENT COMMITS TO MAKE THINGS RIGHT
The Minister of Law and Justice, Prof. Nqosa Mahao has pledged government’s commitment to ensure that reforms process runs smoothly.
This, he said when speaking on behalf of the government during public dialogue on National Reforms’ progress held at Bocheletsane in Mants’onyane on Wednesday.
The dialogue termed ‘Letsema la ho hlaolela lehola la Tlhopho-Bocha’ which was organised by the Transformation Resource Centre (TRC) saw various participants from different districts countrywide who included Principal Chiefs, Members of Parliament (MPs), Community Councilors, Civil Society Organisations (CSOs) and the Mants’onyane community.
He apologized to Basotho for the delay in Reforms, saying it is their responsibility as government since they have been entrusted to lead the country.
He noted that the National Reforms Authority (NRA) has been mandated by Basotho to ensure implementation of Reforms but to date nothing has been done.
He assured all that government will work hard to ensure that Reforms continue as planned.
He expressed gratitude to TRC for the initiative, saying this review process has helped them know where they have transgressed.
Prof. Mahao therefore called on Basotho from all sectors to participate in the Reforms which he said could help alleviate all problems facing Basotho and help them have the Lesotho they want.
He therefore thanked all community leaders who participated in this review exercise and advised them to share what they have acquired with their communities.
The Minister further thanked the European Union (EU) delegation, saying EU has been the main contributor of much efforts towards the Reforms. He also thanked Mr. Sam Matekane for sponsoring the progress review initiative.
At the same event, the EU Ambassador, Dr Christian Manahl commended TRC for the initiative, saying reforms are a national issue and not for only Basotho living in Maseru.
He expressed hope that government and NRA will resolve their problems soon because there is not much time left.
He added that it is a known fact that Parliament is dissolved three months before elections hence urged them to work hard to continue with Reforms before elections in 2022.
He appealed to all especially politicians and community leaders to put aside their differences and work on Reforms, which he said are intended to stabilize the current situation while at the same time government focuses on implementing policies.
He advised them to resist temptations to redo consultations, saying recommendations are there and people have said what they want emphasizing that all that is left is the implementation process. ‘Stick to recommendations and what is in Plenary II’, he added.
On the other hand, Archbishop Tlali Lerotholi on behalf of Christian Council of Lesotho (CCL) said it is time that Basotho, NRA and government jointly work together for the success of Reforms.
He said they should use the wisdom they have to ensure successful Reforms for the betterment of Basotho and Lesotho.
On the other hand, Leader of the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) and also Member of Parliament (MP) for Mahobong constituency, Mr. Mothetjoa Metsing said Reforms are responsibility of each and every Mosotho, therefore urging that all should ensure that Reforms proceed smoothly and soon.
He said the review is a means to a successful journey therefore thanked TRC for organising it.
He urged all leaders in the country to work together and restore hope to the nation.
The National Reforms focus on the seven thematic including Security, Public Service, Constitution, Judiciary, Parliament, Economy and Media.
