GOVERNMENT DECLARES DEATH OF FEMALE RUGBY TEAM MEMBERS AS NATIONAL TRAGEDY

The Minister of Communication, Science and Technology has on behalf of the Lesotho Government pleaded with Basotho as a nation to bow their heads and mourn for the loss of five teenage girls who were on a trip to Bloemfontein for a rugby match.
Chief Masirabane made this call on Sunday following the car accident that led to the death of the 4 rugby team girls along N8 Road to Bloemfontein on Saturday.
He announced this loss as a national tragedy, saying the Government of Lesotho through the Ministries of Education and Training, Gender and Youth, Sports and Recreation and Home Affairs is working together with the families of the deceased to assess the situation and eventually identify the deceased’s bodies.
He said 14 of the athletes were reported to be psychologically traumatised after the incident.
Meanwhile, on Sunday, the Deputy Commissioner of Police Lintle Phasumane reported that injured athletes were said to be admitted at the nearby hospitals, which are Pelonomi Academic Hospital, Botshabelo Hospital and Busamed Bram Fischer International Airport Hospital.
The 28 rugby team members including the management were on a trip to Bloemfontein for a rugby match.
