The Minister of Health, Mr. Semano Sekatle says the Government of Lesotho has decided to cut ties with Tsepong (PTY) Ltd and end their contract.
This, he said when addressing the media during the press briefing held in Maseru.
He said the government has directed the Ministry of Health and that of Finance to terminate the agreement between the Government of Lesotho and Tsépong, saying it might take a while for the plan to be implemented as legal procedures are yet to be followed.
The Minister pointed out that when the agreement is no longer in place, nurses who have been dismissed from Queen ‘Mamohato Memorial Hospital (QMMH) after engaging in a strike will be reinstated and that companies belonging to Basotho will be engaged in negotiations to pave a way forward.
He remarked that the agreement between Tsepong and the Government of Lesotho has been clouded by conflicts and misunderstandings since its inception, commenting that Tsépong has not been complying with the agreement in various aspects.
Mr. Sekatle singled out the issue of doctors’ accommodation which he said was to be paid by Tsépong as per the agreement made in 2015 but was mistakenly paid by the Government of Lesotho until 2017 when it was discovered that it should not have happened hence was terminated.
He further announced the appointment of the Cabinet Sub-committee to deal with issues involving QMMH, saying the sub-committee members include Ministers of Health, Finance, Education and Training, Tourism, Development Planning, Small Business,  Law and Justice and of Labour and Employment.
The Government of Lesotho and Tsépong agreement was made in 2008 and resulted in the construction of QMMH.
QMMH has been in the limelight following a strike by nurses that resulted in some of them being fired.
