HIS MAJESTY APPLAUDS SA OVER REFORMS

His Majesty King Letsie III has thanked the government of South Africa through President Cyril Ramaphosa and his envoy as facilitators for ensuring that the National Reforms process becomes a success.

These, he said when accepting letters of credence from the South African High Commissioner to Lesotho Ms. Constance Seoposengwe at the Royal Palace in Maseru on Thursday.

His Majesty also expressed hope that through the reforms, the upcoming general elections will contribute toward the consolidation of democracy and usher a new era of peace and stability in the country, saying he is looking forward to receiving the Southern African Development Community (SADC) mission to observe the elections.

He further mentioned that it is his hope and confidence that all stakeholders preparing for elections will do their best to deliver true and fair elections.

Presenting her letters of credence, Ms. Seoposengwe congratulated the country for the reforms journey it embarked on and for adopting some of the reformed laws.

However, she said they have noted that the Parliament did not adopt the Omnibus Bill before it was dissolved, saying they heard that the government is considering recalling the parliament to adopt this bill before elections.

She said the SADC mission is expected to monitor and observe the country for free and fair upcoming elections.

On the other hand, the His Majesty also accepted letters of credence from the Ambassador of the Islamic Republic of Iran to Lesotho, Mr. Mehdi Aghajafari saying his appointment signifies Iran’s commitment to further reinforcing bonds of cooperation between the two countries.

He noted that there is a need for both countries to work together to overcome the impacts of COVID-19 based on the scientific expertise that Iran has.

Presenting his letters of credence, Mr. Aghajafari said diplomatic relations between the two countries have been smooth and steady, pledging to strengthen further bonds of cooperation in health, political, economic and cultural relations during his tenure of office.

Meanwhile, both the High Commissioner and Ambassador paid a courtesy call on the Prime Minister, Dr Moeketsi Majoro after the presentation of letters of credence.
