HIS MAJESTY IN COTE D’ IVOIRE

His Majesty King Letsie III and his entourage left the country on Friday for Cote D’ Ivoire for the launching ceremony of the Regional Centre of Excellence Against Hunger and Malnutrition for West and Central Africa.
Speaking in an interview, Senior Private Secretary to His Majesty, Mr. Monehela Posholi said His Majesty received an invitation from the President of Cote D’ Ivoire, Mr. Alassane Dramane Ouattara to attend the launching ceremony in his capacity as the African Union Nutrition Champion and the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) Special Ambassador for nutrition.
Mr. Posholi said it is expected that His Majesty will deliver a speech at this ceremony.
Reports indicate that the regional Centre of Excellence Against Hunger and Malnutrition, which is based at Abidjan in Cote D’ Ivoire will serve as an enhanced knowledge management repository of best practices that contribute to achieving the goal of ensuring no one goes hungry in the region.
It will draw upon the expertise of the World Food Programme (WFP), and the specific strengths of Cote d’Ivoire and other countries in the region in family farming, post-harvest loss management, malnutrition control, convergence of nutrition, community resilience and social protection, the statement states.
It will also seek to repeat the successful South-South cooperation experience of WFP’s Centre of Excellence based in Brazil that has helped governments in Africa, Asia, and Latin America fight hunger, including through sustainable schemes to feed school pupils with produce that is grown and purchased in their countries as well as other nutrition safety nets, the statement adds.
His Majesty was seen off at the Moshoeshoe I Airport by among others, the Prime Minister and the Minister of Communications Science and Technology, Principal Secretaries and other senior government officials.
He was appointed as the African Nutrition Champion since 2014 by the African Union and he is also the Special Ambassador on Nutrition of the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nations since 2016.
