HIS MAJESTY LEADS MOSHOESHOE’S DAY COMMEMORATION

His Majesty King Letsie III on Thursday led the Moshoeshoe’s Day commemoration by laying wreaths on the late King Moshoeshoe I’s grave at the top of Thaba-Bosiu fortress.
The celebration was graced by the presence of the Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Motlalentoa Letsosa Principal Secretary,  Mr. Tumelo Raboletse, members of the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), National Security Service (NSS), Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) and of the Lesotho Correctional Services (LCS) as well as the media.
The Prime Minister, Dr Moeketsi Majoro also laid wreaths and was followed by Principal Chiefs of Makhoakhoa, Chief Tumane Thaabe Matela, Chief of Bataung, Chief Bohosi Moletsane and Chief of Batlokoa, Chief Qetho Halikopane Sekonyela.
Prior to the laying of wreaths, a recorded Basotho prayer was played and LDF Chaplain closed the event with a word of prayer.
The late King Moshoeshoe I was born in 1776 at Menkhoaneng in ‘Mate Leribe. He was the first son of the great house of Chief Mokhachane of the Bakoena clan.
He was given the name of Lepoqo by his parents and later initiated and named Letlama (the binder).
The late King Moshoeshoe I died on March 11, 1870.
Moshoeshoe Day is celebrated annually in remembrance of the founder of the Basotho nation the late King Moshoeshoe I.
Due to COVID-19 members of the public were not present as usual and in this year’s celebration, there was no parade and other entertainment activities.
