HIS MAJESTY LEAVES FOR CUBA

His Majesty King Letsie III left the country for a three-day state visit to Cuba on Thursday.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Lesego Makgothi said this in an interview, saying His Majesty’s visit follows an invitation by Cuba Vice President, Her Excellency INES Maria Chapman Waugh when she was on an official visit in Lesotho in March last year.
He said the gesture was to show appreciation for Lesotho’s support on rejection of illegal and criminal economic, commercial and financial blockade unilaterally imposed on Cuba by the United States of America (USA) government.
Mr. Makgothi added that while in Cuba, His Majesty will also visit Basotho students studying in Cuba as well as to request Cuba to extend education scholarship in other fields particularly agriculture and veterinary.
Again, he said the visit is also to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries.
His Majesty is expected to return on March 05, 2020.
His Majesty’s delegation include Her Majesty Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Makgothi, the Principal Chief of Kueneng and Bela-Bela, Chief Peete Lesaoana Peete, His Majesty’s Principal Secretary, Mr. Monehela Posholi and Senior government officials.
Present to at the airport to send off His Majesty included the Prime Minister, Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane, Cabinet Ministers and senior government officials.
In June 2019, Lesotho and Cuba signed new bilateral cooperation agreement in the field of health.
