HOME AFFAIRS ISSUES DEATH CERTIFICATES ONLY

The Ministry of Home Affairs will only offer services for issuance of Death Certificates during the 21-day lockdown that started on Sunday mid-night.
The Minister of Home Affairs, Mr. Mokhele Moletsane said this on Saturday during media briefing where he said they will only issue death certificates whose deceased have not been buried saying other ministry’s services like issuance of Identity Documents (ID) and passports will not be available at all.
He also urged Basotho who have overstayed in South Africa not to force coming to Lesotho on basis that their passports will be cancelled, stressing that such would not happen as both governments thus Lesotho and South Africa are in agreement, saying South Africa has assured that no passports will be invalidated.
‘Basotho who were given to stay in South Africa and their period of stay fall within the lockdown should not worry because their passports will not be destroyed,’ he stressed.
On the other hand, Minister Mokhele disclosed that Lesotho Special Permit (LSP), which was supposed to expire on March 31 has been extended by three months thus LSP holders have until end of June to renew them to the now Lesotho Exemption Permit (LEP).
The lockdown, which will end on April 21 is intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19 though there are no confirmed cases in Lesotho.
