INDIAN HIGH COMMISSIONER TO LESOTHO MEETS PM

The Indian High Commissioner to the Kingdom of Lesotho, H.E Mr Jaideep Sarkar on Monday paid a courtesy on the Prime Minister, Dr Moeketsi Majoro at the new State House in Maseru.
When briefing the media, Mr. Sarkar said the purpose of the visits was to revive the bilateral relationship between the two countries which he said was badly affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, saying COVID-19 is now fading away.
He said it is time that Lesotho needs to work on Law enforcement and develop other ideas that can help in developing the country.
He commended Basotho for their hospitality not only to him but also to the Indian community that resides in Lesotho.
Meanwhile, the Secretary-General of the African Continental Free Trade Area, H.E Mr. Wamkele Keabetswe Mene also paid the courtesy call on the Prime Ministre.
Addressing the media, Mr. Mene said the purpose of his visit was to express his appreciation to the Government of Lesotho for supporting his candidacy and subsequent election, saying they also discussed in detail the areas of importance in industrialisation.
He remarked that Lesotho has big ambition, particularly in the area of pharmaceuticals, adding that they also discussed automotive sectors and how Lesotho can further benefit from this sector.
In addition, the Secretary-General said he briefed the Prime Minister on the work they are doing as the Secretariat for instance about initiatives like the Pan African Payments and Settlement System and Adjustment Facility which he said is due to be operationalised soon.
The African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) is a free trade area founded in 2018 by the African Continental Free Trade Agreement among 54 of the 55 African Union nations.
Its objectives are to create a single market for goods and services facilitated by the movement of persons in order to deepen the economic integration of the African continent and in accordance with the Pan African Vision of “An integrated, prosperous and peaceful Africa” enshrined in Agenda 2063.
