Relations and cooperation between Lesotho and Federal Republic of Germany have grown stronger through the years.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Relations, Mr. Lesego Makgothi said this during a farewell reception for Honorary Consul of Germany, Mr. Heinz Feibig. The farewell was held in Maseru on Thursday.

He said both countries share same aspirations for peace and prosperity, noting that the Federal Republic of Germany is an important partner of Lesotho and has contributed greatly towards the development of Lesotho.

Mr. Makgothi acknowledged Mr. Feibeig for his service in the country. He described him as dedicated and sociable, saying that during his term as the Consul of Germany in Lesotho, he attended a number of events including cultural events and graduation ceremonies and Lesotho saw an increase in German volunteers coming into the country.

He said Mr. Feibig has shown in a many ways that Lesotho has a special place in his heart, saying it is sad to see him leave.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Feibig described his service in Lesotho as a privilege that he will cherish forever, commenting that the existing bilateral development partnership between Lesotho and Germany are an indication of cooperation between the two countries.

He thanked the Lesotho government for having hosted him and further congratulated Lesotho and Basotho for having held peaceful elections in June, saying he gives his best wishes and prayers for Basotho to enjoy peace, unity and prosperity for many years to come.

Also speaking was the Charge d’ Affaires of Germany, Mr. Klause Streicher who described Mr. Feibig as a man of good standards who loved both countries thus Germany and Lesotho.

He commended Mr. Feibig for serving Lesotho with dignity and loyalty while also representing his country well hence making them proud, saying with this he gained excellent reputation.

He said it is a sad moment for them to bid farewell to Mr. Feibig, further extending his gratitude to the Government of Lesotho and development partners for close working relations with the government of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Meanwhile at the same event, Mr. Streicher on behalf of the government of the Federal Republic of Germany presented a certificate of appreciation to Mr. Feibig as an award for his outstanding service.

Mr. Feibig has served Lesotho as Honorary Consul for 22 years from 1995 to 2017.

Also present at the event was the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Monyane Moleleki and other dignitaries.
