With only two days left before the official launch of the much anticipated Forum on China – Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) hosted in Beijing, Lesotho hopes it addresses major issues like infrastructure.
This is according to the Minister of Public Works and Transport MrMatjato Moteane , who is among Prime Minister Mr Sam Matekane’s delegation.
He said that they will, under the FOCAC, engage in a number of deliberations and signing of the declaration of Beijing summit and plan of Action, while here they will also dwell more on the country’s projects on the table including infrastructure in particular focusing on construction of roads and bridges.
“We have three road projects which are, Thaba-Tseka to Mokhotlong, Sehlabathebe to Makunyapane and Malealea as well as Tebellong bridge connecting Tebellong hospital to Qacha’s Nek . We will table all these in our high level meetings and hopefully we will get fruitful results”, he said.
Moreover he stated that since agriculture is the backbone of Lesotho’s economy, they will also have meetings in which they will look into agricultural mechanisms they can adapt to improve agriculture in the country.
Again, he indicated that on environmental issues their focus will be on waste management especially with the country in the process of migrating waste from Ha-Ts’osane to Ts’oeneng.
He added that they will also touch on information technology, how best it can benefit the country as well as the new broadcasting house in the pipeline.
Furthermore Minister Moteane mentioned that they will visit various industries in China to get a clear picture of how things are done especially since they want to diversify and not only focus on textile. He said that there will also be grant signings among others on phase II of Ramarothole Solar Power.
Meanwhile Prime Minister Mr. Matekane is expected to arrive in Beijing today (Monday). The 2024 FOCAC will be from September 04 to 06 under the theme, “Joining Hands to Advance Modernization”.
