LESOTHO UNDERTAKES AGRICULTURAL CENSUS

The Ministry of Development Planning through Bureau of Statistics (BOS) will undertake the Lesotho Agricultural Census of 2019/2020 to begin on March 07 to 13, 2021.
This is according the press release from the Ministry of Development Planning.
The release states that agriculture census which will be undertaken in all districts of the country is an initiative of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) and it is intended to assist to districts in filling data gaps for monitoring and evaluating development in agriculture to address the challenge of food security.
Its further states that the objective of the Lesotho Agricultural census is to provide data for evidence-based planning and policy-making processes as well as monitoring and evaluation of agriculture programs and projects.
The census will provide data on: data on accessing food security, agriculture planning and policy formulation, the role of gender in agriculture, allows the construction of register of agriculture holdings and sampling examples for probabilities surveyor.
The agricultural census will cover activities on Agricultural households and commercial farms under different systems of land tenure in the admistrative districts, rural settlements including four ecological zones in the country.
The Ministry therefore appeals to chiefs, community, leaders and the public at large to support and work hand in hand with the officers for the success of the national initiative.
