LOCKDOWN RESTRICTIONS LIFTED

The government has decided to lift the lockdown restriction as of January 25, 2022 (Tuesday midnight) to allow the country to improve its economy.
This, the Prime Minister, Dr Moeketsi Majoro announced when addressing the nation on national television on Tuesday.
He said the cabinet reached a decision on Tuesday based on the advice of the National COVID – 19 Secretariat (NACOSEC) that the country can move to the Adjusted Blue Colour Code Stage.
Dr Majoro said moving the country to the Adjusted Blue Colour Code Stage will create an opportunity for the country to improve and grow its economy.
Again, the Prime Minister said with the Adjusted Blue Colour Code Stag, all businesses are now allowed to operate without any curfew in place but still to adhere to COVID-19 recommendations.
Liquor stores will resume normal operation based on the provisions of their licenses and cultural places will also resume normal operation.
He also mentioned that initiation schools are permitted to operate but subject to adherence to standard risk-based guidelines.
He said 51 percent of the population has been vaccinated thus leading to the decrease in high COVID-19 infection rate hence lifting of lockdown restrictions.
The Prime Minister stressed that the government does not force citizens to vaccinate but urges them to vaccinate to avoid loss of life.
Dr Majoro also mentioned that the government has already launched a vaccine for children between the ages of 12 and 17, noting that the total number of those who have already received the vaccine is 20,173.
In conclusion, the Prime Minister urged the nation to take responsibility and adhere to COVID-19 recommendations aimed to combat the spread of COVID-19 infection.
Statistics show that 894, 319 Basotho have been vaccinated with different vaccines thus; 658,697 vaccinated with Johnson & Johnson, AstraZeneca first dose 42, 097 and second dose 35,621, Sinopharm first dose 6,262 and second dose 4,570 as well as Pfizer with 20, 133 for the first dose and 1,031-second dose.
