LUCT LAUNCHES TVET PROGRAMMES

The Limkokwing University of Creative Technology on Wednesday launched the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET programmes).
TVET is a programme that comprises of formal and informal education for work related education. The university has therefore introduced this programme in support of the Ministry of Education and Training Technical and Vocational Department (TVD) initiative to empower as many Basotho as possible.
Speaking at the event, the Director TVD, Mr. Mphale Makhale expressed gratitude over the launched program, saying this is a remarkable effort that will impact the country positively.
He noted that Lesotho is getting to a stage whereby it is diversifying its labor force preparation, saying education system is no longer straight forward either academic or TVET and that there is a collaboration between the two.
He mentioned that skills needed in the market are different from skills of the past, saying it is only on the qualification inflation where the problem is encountered.
He said the new programmes are certificate in Business Information Technology, certificate in Architectural Technology, Certificate in Graphic Design, Certificate in Marketing, Certificate in Innovative Travel and Tourism.
Also speaking, the Director Quality Assurance, Mr Ntlaloe Ntlaloe said it has been discovered that many students from LGCSE are left out of tertiary education just for a pre-requisite subjects required at  institution of higher learning.
He said the objectives of the program are to develop and implement TVET programmes that will bridge the technical and vocational skills gap in the labor market of Lesotho.
Again, LUCT aims at bridging the gap by offering programmes that enable people who are already in the field to improve their skills at their own time while are still producing, using the skills they have acquired at work.
He therefore expressed gratitude to TVD which made it easy for LUCT to compile documents for submission and review for accreditation as they are now celebrating the 5 programmes that have been granted accreditation.
Limkokwing University is an international University with a global presence across 3 continents with over 30 000 students coming from more than 150 countries.
