MCST MINISTER LAUNCHES DIGITITAL MIGRATION IN BEREA

The Minister of Communications Science and Technology, Mr Tsoinyane Rapapa on Thursday launched the digital migration in Teyateyaneng.
Speaking at the event, Mr. Rapapa said the Ministry has constructed 22 towers and three of them are located in Berea District, saying these towers will facilitate migration from analogue to digital.
He said so far, the 16 radio stations have migrated from digital, saying only 10 have mot migrated and the government is working tirelessly to migrate them to digital.
Mr. Rapapa said in order to access the new transmission, one is required to have Ariel, set top box and a television, noting that adding there will be no need to pay for DSTV channels as digital migration access channels for free.
He stressed that digital migration will enable Lesotho Television to have 27 channels, adding that the cabinet has agreed that the Parliament, the Ministries of Local Government and Chieftainship and that of Tourism, Environment and Culture as well as other government ministries will have their own channels and the government will issue licenses to private sector to own their own private channels.
Also Speaking the Chief of Ha Mamathe, Chief Sempe Sempe expressed gratitude to Mr. Rapapa for visiting his hometown to launch this great initiative.
He therefore appealed to the Minister to improve LTV, saying he believes that the new transmission will impact LTV positively.
Meanwhile, Mr. Rapapa visited Assumption High where the Ministry had donated printers and 40 laptops connected with internet that is expected to last five years.
Mr. Rapapa commented the school Principal for taking care of the laptops saying they are all in good conditions.
He said if they continue to take good care of the laptops, they will in the long run help teachers and students to do their researches smoothly.
Giving a note of thanks, the Principal of Assumption High school, Mr. Charles Seutloali thanked the minister for the donations, saying he has been in various meetings where schools were promised computers, however commended Mr. Rapapa for making this promise become a reality.
He said this donation will impact students positively and help them in their future endeavors as they will be skilled with technology.
He therefore appealed to the Ministry of Education and Training to provide schools with Information Technology specialists.
Similar occasion has happened in other districts that include Butha-Buthe and Mokhotlong to mention a few.
