Multitude of Basotho including Cabinet ministers, Diplomatic Corps, Senior Government officials, chiefs and various community groups in Quthing  gathered at Liphakoe Pitso Ground, Upper Moyeni to join their Majesties King Letsie III and Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso in celebration of His Majesty’s  56th Birthday on Wednesday.
As part of the celebration, the Lesotho Mounted Police (LMPS) escorted and ushered their Majesties in honour of His Majesty as a symbol of Lesotho Monarchy, unity of Basotho and the custodian of cultural heritage. In the same spirit, His Majesty inspected the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF) parade while various entertainment groups sang and performed traditional songs and dances, gospel music, hip-hop and music choral.
Welcoming the attendants, the Government Secretary, Mr. Moahloli Mphaka congratulated Liphakoe for having come in large numbers to celebrate with His Majesty on his special day, saying they should therefore enjoy the celebration.
In an interview with some of the attendants at the celebration, they  expressed their gratitude for the event which they said is special and marks history of the district as it comes after many years. They further wished His Majesty the King a happy birthday and long life for Basotho.
The National King’s Birthday celebration is celebrated annually in different 10 districts of the country with the aim to give all Basotho an opportunity to celebrate His Majesty’s birthday with royal family. Last year the national celebration was held in Butha-Buthe.
Besides the national celebration held in Quthing, some of the cabinet ministers led the districts celebrations where they wished His Majesty a happy birthday and long life.
Also present to grace the celebration were neighbouring communities from Rhodes and Matatiele municipalities in the Eastern Cape in South Africa.
His Majesty King Letsie III was born at Scott hospital in Morija on July 17, 1963. He is the first born of the late King Moshoeshoe II and late Queen–Mother Mamohato Bereng Seeiso. He is married to Queen Masenate Mohato Seeiso and are blessed with three children, Princesses Senate and Maseeiso and Prince Lerotholi.
