NATIONAL ASSEMBLY ADJOURNS SINE DIE

The National Assembly adjourned sine die on Thursday after the Leader of the House, Dr Monyane Moleleki proposed the motion which was endorsed by members.
Dr Moleleki who is also Deputy Prime Minister said the reasons for the house to break indefinitely are many, citing the death of Principal Chief of Quthing, Chief Qefate Hlabathe Nkuebe who was laid to rest on Friday.
He said the two houses of Parliament lost two members including Member of Parliament for Makhoroana Constituency, Mr. Lefu Hlomelang, describing the situation as a tragedy hence members need to attend their funerals in numbers.
Again, he said it is now seven months since the country experienced severe drought, however saying it has just received rains hence it is important for members to go home and take advantage of these showers to plough beans or anything in order to save the country from imminent hunger and starvation caused by the drought.
“It is also time for the house to adjourn for the festive season based on its calendar so that we go home and rejoice the birth of Jesus Christ and come back in the New Year well rested to engage in the budget of the country,” he said.
Dr Monyane seconded the motion, adding that another important issue was the launch of the National Reforms process by His Majesty King Letsie III last week, saying they need to speed up the processes such as the country’s constitution, which he said the present one is too old.
He was seconded by Minister of Tourism, Environment and Culture Chief Joang Molapo, who said the motion was procedural and does not need to be motivated further, saying the leader of the house has already supported it with enough reasons.
The house therefore adjourned indefinitely.
