NATIONAL MUSEUM COMLPLETION IN SIX MONTHS

The Minister of Tourism, Environment and Culture says the National Museum Art and Gallery is expected to be completed in the next financial year.
This, Ms. Ntlhoi Motsamai said during a site visit at the Lesotho National Museum Arts and Gallery which aimed at establishing progress made on the construction of the museum.
She remarked that she decided to visit the site so that she would know how much money is needed to complete this project as it will be easy for the ministry to make its budget for the next year.
She stressed that if the construction of the museum exceeds its due date, it will cost the country more money since prices of the material increase every year.
Narrating in an interview the beginning of the project, DNT Architecture, Mr. Ntsiu Ntlatlapo said the idea began in 1998 when the government of Lesotho decided to build a museum hence invited architectures from SADC countries for a competition and Lesotho architectures won the competition as they designed the spiral aloe shape museum which he said is only found in Lesotho hence attracted the judges.
He added that in 1999, they completed the design of the museum but due to lack of funds they could not proceed with the concept.
He said in 2015 when the government was ready to effect implementation of this project, they approached DNT Architecture and requested them to continue with the design.
Mr. Ntlatlapo noted that the design of the museum caters for all people including those living with disability.
He said the purpose of the museum is to show the origin of Basotho and where they are now.
The museum will consist of a Cafeteria where all traditional food will be sold, gallery where Sesotho books will be displayed, display of animals found in the country and a theater.
This is the first national museum of its type to be constructed in the country.
