The two newly appointed ministers and a deputy minister took oath of allegiance and oath of office in a swearing-in ceremony held at the Royal Palace in Maseru on Friday.
The swearing-in for the two Ministers was performed by Chief Justice Sakoane Sakoane while his deputy Judge Tséliso Maphathi performed that of the deputy minister.
The two ministers are former Deputy Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship, Mr. Moshe Leoma who was sworn in as Minister of Labour and Employment and Member of Parliament for Likhetlane Constituency No. 16, Mr. Lekhetho Mosito who was sworn in as Minister of Defense and National Security.
Following was a Member of Parliament for Taung Constituency No. 56, Mr. Selemo Mongobe who was sworn in as Deputy Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship.
Mr. Leoma and Mr. Mosito are respectively replacing former Ministers, Ms. Keketso Rantšo and Mr. Prince Maliehe who have been relieved from their duties as ministers effective from Wednesday.
Present to witness the swearing-in ceremony under COVID-19 regulations were His Majesty King Letsie III, the Prime Minister, Dr Moeketsi Majoro and the Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Mathibeli Mokhothu.
The ceremony commenced with a prayer led by the Christian Council of Lesotho (CCL) and guidance words were drawn from the book of Deuteronomy 23:21-23 which states: ” If you make a vow to the Lord your God, you shall not delay fulfilling it, for the Lord your God will surely require it of you, and you will be guilty of sin.”
The scripture goes on to say ‘But if you refrain from vowing, you will not be guilty of sin. You shall be careful to do what has passed your lips, for you have voluntarily vowed to the Lord your God what you have promised with your mouth.’
The two ministers and deputy minister have sworn to be truthful and bear true allegiance to His Majesty, his heirs and successors in accordance with the Constitution and laws of Lesotho. They have also vowed to among others give advice for the good management of affairs of Lesotho and not disclose cabinet business or proceedings without authority.
The swearing-in ceremony follows the reshuffle of Cabinet and Principal Secretaries by the Prime Minister, Dr Moeketsi Majoro on Wednesday.
