PM CAUTIONS BASOTHO ABOUT COVID-19

The Prime Minister, Dr Moeketsi Majoro has appealed to Basotho as a nation and individually to take issues relating to COVID-19 pandemic serious in order to prevent new infections and ensure recovery of those infected by the virus.
Dr Majoro was speaking in an interview during his visit at the COVID-19 Isolation Facility in Berea on Tuesday.  This is the centre where two Coronavirus patients are kept, and their conditions being monitored along with other four suspects who are awaiting results.
During the visit, the Prime Minister and his delegation toured the facility, mainly a laboratory, Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and isolation wards where patients are kept.
He expressed concern that Lesotho has registered cases of coronavirus, saying the country is not there yet in as far as dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic, He therefore urged the Ministry of Health to speed up the processes meant to secure enough equipment to fight the virus.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Mr. Motlatsi Maqelepo confirmed to the nation that of the two confirmed cases, the first patient has now tested negative and is awaiting additional tests.
“If the last tests come out negative, the patient will be given COVID-19 Negative Certificate and be released from hospital,” he said.
On the other hand, the Nurse in charge of the facility outlined challenges faced by the facility and they include; shortage of resources such as heating system and thermo scanners.
The Prime Minister’s delegation included Deputy Prime Minister, Mr. Mathibeli Mokhothu, Minister of Health, Mr. Motlatsi Maqelepo and his Deputy Minister, Mr. Nto Moakhi, Minister of Communications, Science and Technology, Chairperson of the Ministerial Sub-committee National Emergency Command Centre, Chief Thesele Maseribane.
