PM LAUNCHES ENGAGEMENT MEETINGS

The Prime Minister (PM), Mr. Ntsokoane Samuel Matekane on Thursday launched his engagement meetings with various sectors of the public.

Addressing a meeting where District Administrators (DA’s), District Council Secretaries (DCS), and Chairpersons converged at ‘Manthabiseng Convention Centre, Mr. Matekane said the new government aspires for radical change so as to improve the ailing state of this country and the nation.

The Prime Minister, who is also Minister of Defence, National Security and Environment highlighted the need to accelerate the implementation of decentralization as this will go a long way in addressing the needs of Basotho.

He said the DA’s, DCS and Chairpersons form a critical part of the government in terms of ensuring a conducive environment, while also making sure that people do access services like water, electricity and health and security services.

“Our vision as the new Coalition Government is to make sure that together we join hands and reshape the image of Lesotho,” he stressed.

On the same note, the Minister of Local government, Chieftainship, Police and Home Affairs, Mr. Lebona Lephema thanked participants for attending in large numbers this critical meeting. He called for all to have patriotism, noting that loving Lesotho is the main solution to the challenges of this country.

Also speaking, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Justice, Law and Parliamentary Affairs, Justice Nthomeng Majara urged Basotho to introspect and think of changing behaviors, respecting the rule of law so as to take Lesotho back to the good days when Lesotho was not only at peace with herself but with other nations of the world.

Sharing their challenges, participants appealed for the availability of resources in order to ease service delivery, further urging for their security as they deal with sensitive matters that include land.

On behalf of the DA’s, Ms. ‘Mapaseka Masupha who is the DA for Quthing expressed the need to review the Local Government Act 1997, saying it hinders progress in terms of service delivery as they sometimes fail to make crucial decisions at the community level due to hierarchy that forces them to report to Principal Secretary Chieftainship affairs.

Present at the meeting included the Minister in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Limpho Tau and the Government Secretary, Mr. Pheko Lerotholi amongst others.

This is part of the Prime Minister’s scheduled meetings with the different public sector, Civil Society Organizations, Development Partners and the media this week and Monday next week.
