The Prime Minister, Dr Motsoahae Thomas Thabane and his delegation left the country on Monday for the 7th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD) to be held at Yokohama in Japan from Wednesday to Friday.
According to Press Attaché in the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Thabo Thakalekoala, all the 54 African countries including Lesotho are expected to take part in the Summit, adding that countries will be represented by heads of state and government representatives.
Mr. Thakalekoala said the summit will discuss among other issues; how Japan can take part in the development of Africa and establish ways to reduce debts made by the African countries, saying these huge debts often hinder development of countries.
He added that at this Summit, Dr Thabane is expected to make a presentation on the state of Lesotho and how the country can be assisted to boost its economy.
The Prime Minister and his delegation are expected to return home on Monday next week.
TICAD is described as the pioneer development forum on Africa led by the government of Japan since 1993 and co-hosted by the United Nations, United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), World Bank and African Union Commission (AUC).
Africa, which is made up of 54 different countries with over 1.2 billion population is said to have attracted foreign investment and expanded domestic consumption recently, thus resulting in economic growth.
The Prime Minister and his delegation are expected to return home on Monday next week.
