POWER HOUSE FOR DATA CENTRE TO BE CONSTRUCTED

Preparations are underway to construct a two-roomed power house for a data centre built in Mohale’s hoek, the Lesotho e-government infrastructure Project Coordinator, Mr. Khiba Masiu said this in a brief interview on Sunday.
Mr. Masiu said the power house falls under the main components of the project being implemented by the Ministry of Communications, Science and Technology in collaboration with the Ministry of Finance with the intension to improve Lesotho’s e-government infrastructure.
The project has four main components that include strengthening of core government network infrastructure, strengthening of data centres, improvement of the government E-portal and skills development.
Mr. Masiu further explained that progress made so far towards the implementation of the project is impressive as some of its components have already been completed citing construction of five towers amongst others.
The towers have been constructed at Senqunyane in Mokhotlong, Likhoele in Mafeteng, Ha Ts’ilo in Maseru, Malimong in Berea and Thamathu in Qacha’s Nek while the service providers are both Vodacom-Lesotho and Econet Telecom-Lesotho.
The Lesotho e-government Infrastructure project became effective in October 2016 and it is expected to come to an end in August 2019. It is co-funded by Lesotho government and African Development Bank with over M12 million.
