In accordance with its mandate to monitor the finalization of the reforms process, the Southern African Development Community (SADC) Mission of the SADC Panel of Elders- Oversight Committee on Lesotho Reforms is in the country.
This was disclosed by the Speaker of the National Assembly Mr Tlohang Sekhamane when reading before the House a savingram from the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Relations on Wednesday.
Mr Sekhamane said during this visit, the Committee, which is led by its Chairperson Dr Jakaya Kikwete will have consultations with various stakeholders.
He said the mission requested a meeting with the Speaker of the National Assembly on Tuesday next week at 09:00 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Parliament and will meet with Leaders of the Opposition parties at 13:30 p.m. to 14:30 p.m. on the same day at Avani Lesotho.
Meanwhile the summit of Heads of State and Government convened in Zimbabwe on August 17 and endorsed the extended long-term facilitation and mediation missions in Lesotho by the Oversight Committee composed of the Panel of Elders and assisted by the Mediation Reference Group, the Secretariat and other external advisors.
The Purpose of the mission is to engage and sensitise all national stakeholders on the need to pass and implement the reforms expeditiously, and to identify and mitigate possible obstacles to the completion of the reforms process.
