SECURITY AGENCIES TO ENFORCE COVID-19 REGULATIONS

After the opening of the various night clubs and bars which operated beyond the stipulated hours during the weekend, Basotho were left with more anxiety and questioning the existence of state of emergency in the country.
Following this behaviour, the Minister of Health, Motlatsi Maqelepo held a meeting with the security agencies thus the Lesotho Defence Force (LDF), Lesotho Mounted Police Service (LMPS) as well as Lesotho Correctional Service (LCS) where all parties pledged their commitment towards implementation of Public Health (COVID-19) Regulations, 2020.
According to the National Emergency Command Centre (NECC), the Minister’s meeting which was held in Maseru on Monday was attended by Major General Ramanka Mokaloba of LDF, LMPS Senior Assistant Commissioner Ezekiel Senti and Deputy Commissioner Matingoe Phamotse of LCS.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Maqelepo said the fact that the country has already recorded two cases of COVID-19, people as individuals should consider this as an emergency hence the need to introspect, change attitudes and perceptions towards this pandemic.
“We all can attest to the fact that the virus has proved beyond reasonable doubts that health is wealth,” the Minister stressed.
On the other hand, giving an outline of the Public Health (COVID-19) Regulations, 2020 No 43 which was amended on May 19, 2020, Senior Assistant Commissioner Senti appealed to the nation to abide by the regulations as they are intended to curb spread of Coronavirus in the country.
He assured the nation that some of the suspects in these illegal acts have already been arrested and will appear in courts.
