Honourable Selibe Mochoboroane The Minister of Health

Hon. Mochoboroane is the Minister of Health. He was appointed to this position in November 2022. He is the Member of Parliament for the Thabana-Morena constituency. He is also the Leader and founder of the Movement for Economic Change (MEC) political party.

In 2001 he served as the Principal of Sekonyela High School in Mokhotlong until 2006. In 2009 he was employed as a Manager at Khatleli Savings and Credit until 2012 when he made the decision to fully immerse himself in his longstanding passion for politics.

In September 2020, while serving as Minister of Development Planning, he graduated with a Master of Arts in Development Studies from the National University of Lesotho.

In 2000, he completed a Certificate in Business Studies at the National University of Lesotho (NUL) through the Institute of Extra-Mural Studies (IEMS), studying further to pursue a Bachelor of Arts in Education Degree from the National University of Lesotho which he was awarded in 2011.

At just 35 years old, he ran for the constituency seat of Thabana-Morena during the 2012 General Elections under the banner of the Lesotho Congress for Democracy (LCD) party. Although he was an unlikely candidate, his passion and determination to serve his community was evident, and he won the confidence of voters, becoming a freshman Member of the 8th Parliament of the Kingdom of Lesotho. It was under the 2012 Coalition government led by the All Basotho Convention (ABC), that he was appointed to the position of Deputy Minister of Local Government and Chieftainship.

This was a position he held until 2014 when he was appointed as the position of Minister, serving in the portfolio of Communications, Science & Technology. He held this position until 2015 with the premature demise of the 8th Parliament. Following the 2015 General Elections, also under the banner of the LCD, Hon. Mochoboroane retained his Thabana-Morena constituency becoming a Member of the 9th Parliament. The LCD was a partner to the 7-party coalition led by the Democratic Congress.

During this administration, he was appointed as Minister of Energy, where he led the rural electrification campaign. In 2016, he was reassigned to the Minister of Small Business Development, Cooperatives and Marketing until 7th February 2017 when he was relieved of his duties as Cabinet Minister. Soon after his release, the 9th Parliament also suffered an abrupt demise with the call for snap elections. In late 2016, Hon. Mochoboroane parted ways with the LCD and founded the Movement for Economic Change (MEC) in February 2017.

With the demise of the 9th Parliament, his new party contesting for General Elections barely 4 months after its formation. Despite the odds being staked against MEC, Hon. Mochoboroane retained his Thabana-Morena constituency in the June 2017 General Elections and became a Member of the 10th Parliament.

During the 10th Parliament, Hon. Mochoboroane elevated the reputation and efficacy of Parliament’s Public Accounts Committee which he served as the Chairperson. He uncovered several, accounts of corruption, collusion and maladministration, also casting a spotlight on the need for Parliament to have added powers to pursue cases of impropriety to their just and logical conclusion.

Hon. Mochoboroane is married to Mrs. ‘Mamoseli Mochoboroane and are blessed with two daughters and a son.
