The Department of Traffic in the Ministry of Transport has opened to provide services to truck drivers considered offering essential services.
The Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Transport, Mr. Thabo Motoko said this in an interview with LENA on Monday.
Mr. Motoko said the move follows the ministry’s promise to the public that truck drivers providing essential services will be assisted so that they continue to carry out their services during the lockdown period, saying these include fuel, medicine and food truck drivers.
He added that services provided for these mentioned categories of truck drivers are renewal of public driving permits and driver’s licenses, noting that for such truck drivers to be assisted, they are expected to present confirmation letter from their employers (companies).
He said the above mentioned services will be provided on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, saying this is ony when the country is still on lockdown, commenting that on Monday between 09:00 AM and 12:00 Noon, 60 to 70 people received services.
Mr. Motoko therefore appealed for public cooperation during this lockdown period as the ministry only provides serves to the mentioned group.
Though Lesotho has no confirmed covid-19 cases, the country is currently on lock-down as part of measures to prevent the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
